What is the European Youth Event (EYE2018)?

The EYE2018 takes place on 1-2 June 2018 in the European Parliament’s seat in Strasbourg. It is a unique opportunity for young Europeans to make their voices heard. One of Turabder’s member Selin Uğurtas has been selected to represent our Association ‘s youth group in Strasbourg.

During the event, they will:

• * Come up with ideas for the future of Europe
• * Discuss with European decision makers
• * Join more than 8,000 young people from all over Europe

* Follow-up to the event:

• July 2018: a report featuring the most concrete ideas discussed during the event will be distributed to all Members of the European Parliament (MEPs).
• Autumn 2018: some participants will present the most developed ideas from the report to a number of parliamentary committees and get feedback from MEPs.

Background information on the EYE – The aim of the EYE is to invite young people (16-30 years old) from the EU 28 Member States and neighbouring countries to meet and come up with ‘Ideas for a Better Europe’. The most interesting ideas generated will be presented to the Members of the European Parliament in a report and during Youth Hearings in the EP Committees in the autumn – Panels aim at encouraging and stimulating the debate among young participants, catch the ideas they will bounce off you, and respond to them. Speakers and moderators are invited to keep their interventions very short as to allow for enough time for exchanges with the participants.

Creating a Region of Growth, Security and Connectivity on the Path to Europe On 16 May 2018,  the Bulgarian presidency, the EU institutions, governments from the Western Balkans and European Movement representatives will hold a forum for dialogue in Sofia, Bulgaria. With the European Commission’s new strategy for the Western Balkans,  the countries of the region were given a fresh perspective for joining the Union. The 2025 horizon is a new chance for the region to complete all the necessary reforms. The EU needs to start discussing and communicating this new opportunity not only to policymakers, but also with societies in the region and across the EU. Citizens have a role to play by motivating their governments to implement reforms in the next 5-7 years.  That is why one of the main tasks of the EU should be to start a vivid dialogue with the societies in the Western Balkans: media, analysts, NGO activists and opinion makers, and to facilitate their participation in the process. The Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation has invited Prof. Dr. Gül Günver Turan, president of  the Turkey EU Association to Stockholm,  Sweden for a round-table conference on developments in Turkey, on  March 14, 2018. The round-table meeting will take place at the Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation’s office  in the morning, and will be followed by a lunch. In the afternoon, the Foundation will arrange a meeting program with Swedish journalists and thereafter host a public seminar on Turkey, where some of the participants from the meeting will speak for a broader audience.. Invited to the conference are journalists, experts, civil society actors and policy makers from Turkey and Sweden. The discussions will be held in English and focus on current trends and challenges in Turkey with a special emphasis on the human rights situation as well as foreign policy challenges, including Turkey’s relationship with the European Union.

Türkiye-Avrupa Birliği İlişkilerinde Sivil Toplum: Sivil Toplum Kuruluşları’nın Rolü

Uluslararası İlişkiler ve Avrupa Çalışmaları Merkezi (CIES), Türkiye Kurumsal Sosyal Sorumluluk Derneği ve Asia Minor işbirliği ile “Türkiye-Avrupa Birliği İlişkilerinde Sivil Toplum: Sivil Toplum Kuruluşları’nın Rolü” başlıklı bir panel düzenleyecektir. Panelin amacı; Türkiye ile Avrupa Birliği arasındaki ilişkilerde sivil toplum aktörleri olarak STK’ların nasıl bir rol oynadıkları ve oynayabilecekleri sorusuna yanıt bulmaktır. Etkinlik 21 Şubat Çarşamba günü 13:30-15:30 saatleri arasında Kadir Has Üniversitesi Galata Salonu’nda gerçekleşecek.

1. Le moment actuel de la relation euro-turque

Les turbulences européo-turques sont multiples et la situation devenue préoccupante quant à l’avenir du partenariat entre les deux parties. A quelques semaines de la publication du rapport de la Commission européenne, il semble utile et nécessaire de faire le point sur l’état desdites relations et d’esquisser ce que pourrait être leur avenir. Dans ce cadre, la situation des communautés turques vivant au sein de l’Union européenne sera aussi examinée.

2. Les développements de l’offensive idéologique du pouvoir : ordre moral, question scolaire…

La dégradation de l’Etat de droit et des libertés publiques en Turquie se double et s’appuie sur une bataille idéologique à connotation religieuse. Les autorités politiques veulent imposer leur ordre moral dans le pays et multiplient déclarations, décisions et mesures en ce sens. Il s’agira d’évaluer précisément leur ampleur et leur réalité. Une attention particulière sera portée au système scolaire dans ce processus.

3. Où en est la question kurde en Turquie ? La question kurde constitue probablement le plus important défi posé à la société et aux autorités politiques turques. La situation s’est considérablement dégradée depuis l’été 2015 et aucune solution politique ne se profile à ce jour. Outre les enjeux intérieurs, il s’agira d’évaluer les conséquences des évolutions des situations régionales, plus précisément en Irak et en Syrie.
