Upon request of the President of the International Cooperation Platform Mr. Cengiz Özgencil Prof. Dr. Gül Günver Turan president of the Turkey European Union Association  organized the following panel where she brought together five speakers, Ambassador Georges Ciamba from Romania which is a member of the EU but not a member of either the Schengen area or the eurozone,  Dr. Paul Levin from Sweeden member of the EU, the Schengen area but not the eurozone, Mr. Pier Virgilio Dastoli from Italy which is a founding member of to-day’s EU, and member of both the Schengen area and the Eurozone, Sir David Logan from the UK which has opted out of the EU and finally  Dr. Çiğdem Nas from Turkey an applicant country for the past sixty years if not more. The theme of the panel and their speakers are listed below.

09:00-10:15 INVESTING IN THE COMMON FUTURE OF EUROPE: TIME FOR CONSTRUCTIVE  VISION AND SUBSTANTIAL ACTION

The lessons of the last decade’s economic crisis demonstrates the need for a stronger Euro zone governance. The exponential velocity of the Fourth Industrial Revolution is challenging the viability of the European social model and global competitiveness. Democracies across Europe are being tested by rising populism. These new developments seem to be arguments for a more homogeneous and federal European system, for a wider and better organised European area of freedom, security and justice as well as a  better organized single market. Can the European Union (EU) find solutions to these rising problems is the question? Can the scenario of a well-structured multi-speed Europe as proposed by the European Commission shape the future? What will be the impact of the renewed Berlin-Paris axis? How will Brexit affect the EU and the United Kingdom, and what are its implications for European security architecture? Since recent data suggests that the economic recovery of the Euro zone is strong, despite a number of political risks, will that allow a strengthening of the EU’s soft power?

Türkiye-Avrupa Birliği Derneği (TURABDER) ve İktisadi Kalkınma Vakfı (IKV)  işbirliğinde 18 Kasım 2017 tarihinde Türkiye-AB ilişkilerinin geleceğini ele almak üzere Antakya Ticaret ve Sanayi Odası ev sahipliğinde bir panel düzenlendi. Konuyla ilgili öğretim üyelerini, iş dünyası ve STK temsilcilerini ve diğer ilgili paydaşları bir araya getiren etkinliğe, Turabder başkanı Prof. Gül Günver Turan ve İKV Araştırma Müdürü Çisel İleri  katıldı.

İlk açılış konuşmasını yapan Antakya Ticaret ve Sanayi Odası Başkanı Hikmet Çinçin Hatay bölgesindeki sıkıntılara dikkat çekti ve Suriyeli sığınmacılar hakkında bilgi verdi. İkinci açılış konuşmasını gerçekleştiren eski Katar ve OECD Büyükelçisi ve TURABDER Üyesi Mithat Rende, teşekkürlerini sunarak başladığı konuşmasında bölgedeki sorunların ve Türkiye-AB ilişkilerinin üzerinde durdu. Devamında düzenlenen “Son Jeopolitik Gelişmeler Işığında Türkiye-AB İlişkileri” başlıklı paneli yöneten TURABDER Başkanı Prof. Dr. Gül Günver Turan, Türkiye-AB ilişkilerindeki son gelişmelerin sadece Türkiye’yi değil AB üye ülkelerini de etkilediğini belirttikten sonra sözü panelin ilk konuşmacısı emekli Büyükelçi Yusuf Buluç’a verdi. Eski Büyükelçi son dönemde yaşanan NATO krizi ile ilgili görüşlerinin ardından Türkiye-AB ilişkileri ve Türkiye-NATO ilişkileri hakkında bilgiler paylaştı. Ardından söz alan panelin ikinci konuşmacısı TURABDER Genel Sekreteri Ela Taşkın, AB’deki STK’ların tarihçesine ve küresel krizde oynayabilecekleri role ek olarak AB bütünleşme sürecinde STK’ların önemine dair görüşlerini paylaştı.

Panelde üçüncü olarak Avrupa İstikrar Girişimi (ESI) ve TURABDER Üyesi Erkut Emcioğlu konuştu. Türkiye-AB ilişkilerini fasıllar ve müzakere bağlamında kronolojik olarak ele alan Emcioğlu, özellikle blokajlı 23’üncü fasıl olan “Yargı ve Temel Haklar” ile 24’üncü fasıl olan “Adalet, Özgürlük ve Güvenlik” üzerinde durdu. Erkut Emcioğlu ayrıca katılım öncesi mali yardım aracı olan IPA’ya değinerek Türkiye’nin yararlanma oranlarına ait bazı istatistiki veriler paylaştı. Son olarak söz alan İKV Araştırma Müdürü Çisel İleri sunumunda, Türkiye-AB ticaretinin mevcut durumuna, Gümrük Birliği’nin Türkiye’ye kazandırdıklarına ve şu anki güncellenme gerekliliğinin sebeplerine değindi. Panel, gerçekleştirilen soru-cevap kısmının ardından Panel Başkanı Prof. Dr. Gül Günver Turan’ın değerlendirmeleri ile son buldu.

Globalisation, Recent Developments which took place within the European Union, and Europe- France -Turkey relations will be discussed. Turabder’s President Gül Günver Turan will be attending the conference alongside her guest Yves Bertoncini , President of the European Movement France. The final program will be put on the web in coming days. Participation in this event is by invitation only.

TURABDER, bu sene 9 Mayıs Avrupa Günü’nü İstanbul’daki beş üniversitenin öğrencileriyle kutlamıştı. Şimdi de benzer bir çalışmayı 16 Ekim’de Türkkonfed’in işbirliği ile Anadolu Üniversitesi ve Osman Gazi Üniversitesi öğrencilerinin ve konuyla ilgili öğretim üyelerinin katılımı ile Eskişehir Tasiago Otelinde yürütecektir. Toplantının sabahki  bölümünde Anadolu ve Osmangazi Üniversitelerinden  44 öğrenci ve 5 öğretim üyesi ile Avrupa Birliği- Türkiye ilişkileri  bir atölye çalışmasında irdelenecektir. Öğle yemeği sırasında bir onur konuğumuz konuşacak, öğleden sonra ise öğrenci ve öğretim üyelerinin ve  İstanbul Ticaret Odası ile Türkonfed üyelerinin dinleyici olarak katıldığı bir panel düzenlenmiştir. Günün sonunda toplantıya tam gün katılan öğrencilere sertifika verilecektir.

annual meetings, namely the Europe Day 2018 preparatory meeting and the National Councils meeting (formerly named Heads of Office meeting). Both meeting will take place on Wednesday 11 October, in Brussels (Square de Meeus 1 (1^st floor), 1000 Brussels).

The Europe Day preparatory meeting will take place from 10am to 12pm and will address the following topics:

• Round of feedback on 2017 activities;
• Discussion of the new concept for 2018 celebrations;
• Overall objective for 2018.

It is intended for the individuals who are responsible for the preparation, implementation and follow-up of the Europe Day celebrations in the participating National Councils. We strongly encourage last year’s participating members, as well as other National Councils that plan to participate in 2018, to join the discussion. The National Councils meeting will take place from 1pm to 4pm. The meeting is intended for individuals in charge of the day-to-day management of their respective National Council. This  International Conference on “EU-Turkey Relations” is  organized by the European Institute and Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence of Istanbul Bilgi University in collaboration with Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, TÜSES, KÜYEREL, Science Academy, Turkey and SODEV.
